Its an ancient symbol of the Sun, I doubt germans were suprised.

Here is a interesting badge with a curious mixture of themes. It shows the image of the Polish hero, Marshal Piłsudski. it is the badge of : 14 Suwalski pułk artylerii przeciwpancernej (14th Anti-Tank Artillery Regiment Suwałki).
