Man Claims Bir Tawil for Daughter

Postby APS221 » 13 Jul 2014 00:36

I came across this article about a man who clamed Bir Tawil for his daughter.
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7656 ... ather.html

The article includes a photo of his family's flag which he planted in Bir Tawil to claim it.

Nice  If only things were still as simple as planting a flag. However the article is wrong in that Bir Tawil is the last piece of unclaimed land. There are unclaimed lands dotted all over the place. Marie Byrd Land in Antarctica for example is the largest area of unclaimed territory on Earth.
 Here's a thought just for fun if anyone was to travel to claim an unclaimed land what flag would you use?

Hi Sammy

I knew about this unclaimed area, plus Marie Byrd Land. Could you list some of the others - just for nerdy interest of course!! :)

The ones that I am aware of, although I don't know the exact details are: Land portions along the Danube river (between Serbia and Croatia) Various land strips on the Croatian - Slovenian boarder including whole villages! The sea bed in international waters and land bodies in space (like the moon) although the last two have UN legislation protecting them from claimants nation states or otherwise.
